Chapter 1: A Six-Year Celebration of Splinterlands
We recently commemorated the sixth anniversary of Splinterlands, illuminating the digital realms with thrilling adventures and incredible rewards! The festivities spanned several days and were absolutely breathtaking.
I was lucky enough to win two Rebellion packs through Twitter events—what an achievement! I also participated in the largest tournament to date, where fierce competitors vied for record-breaking prizes. The stakes were high with over $1,000,000 in $DEC, land plots, Runi, packs, and more on the line!
Despite finishing with five wins and nine losses, I considered it a valuable learning experience. Given my unfamiliarity with the advanced cards, I felt my performance was commendable. Competing with fully upgraded cards posed a challenge, especially since I lacked knowledge of effective battle synergies. My strategy revolved around deploying the most expensive cards available!
Let’s shift gears from that monumental tournament and embark on a new adventure together. I’ll recount my stories of victory, unconventional strategies that led me to success, and the cherished memories we created.
My friends, who I affectionately refer to as “normie friends,” might not fully grasp my excitement! As Deckard Cain once advised… Stay Awhile and Listen! Interested in joining me in this game? Let me distill the experience for you!
The goal is to assemble the optimal 7-card deck from your available cards to battle against opponents. Accumulating wins earns you Glint, which can be used in the shop for cards, potions, or even titles!
So, what exactly is Glint? It’s the new currency for ranked play, allowing players to purchase various items in the shop. You earn Glint daily based on your victories, with a substantial bonus at the end of the season, depending on overall performance!
So far, I was managing to earn around 25k Glint each season. However, the introduction of the “Wild Pass” has changed things! As a casual player, I found myself needing to adjust my strategy and gather 40 Vouchers to purchase the Pass.
The concerning aspect of the Wild Pass is its expiration at the end of each season, compelling me to buy a new one to continue playing in Wild mode. This adjustment likely reduced participation from less skilled players, making it more challenging for me as my Glint earnings were halved.
I find it increasingly difficult to string together wins, but when I do, it feels remarkable! Unconventional strategies often give me an edge. In this particular battle, I had to unleash my wild side! With a mere 15 mana for team selection and a set of restrictive battle rules, I had to think creatively.
Fire & Regret rules prohibited the use of ranged units, and while Scattershot could apply, Ferocity granted Fury to all units, while tanks took double damage. I had no tanks to rely on for this match!
My team composition included: - Tarsa: +1 melee & +1 health - Radiated Scorcher: Melee with Shatter - Scorch Fiend: Zero Mana Melee - Serpentine Spy: Melee with Opportunity - Creeping Ooze: Support with Slow - Gobalano Soldier: Melee with Sneak and Ambush - Uraeus: Melee with Sneak
I faced another fire team, boosted by Tarsa, which mirrored my strategy but included a stronger mana unit. The Tenyii Striker had higher health and damage; however, I believed two units for that cost would have been more beneficial.
It had been ages since I encountered a furious chicken! The Gobalano Soldier delightedly ambushed the bird, making it his meal. My speed reduction turned out to be a game-changer, allowing my Serpentine Spy to strike first!
With the Serpentine Spy eliminating another opponent and Uraeus swiftly dispatching the Tenyii Striker shortly after, I found myself in a strong position. The Scavo Chemist was left vulnerable and isolated. I achieved a flawless victory, thanks to a solid strategy. Check out the full battle here!
However, I'm not thrilled with the Wild Pass situation, as acquiring it requires spending my hard-earned DEC or Vouchers. I'm also disappointed with the drop rates of Conflicts; my chances of obtaining cards are dismally low!
I had 14 opportunities for Rage, which increased to 15 for Kei. I improved my chances with 37 for Venka and 47 for Lorkus, yet the odds remain discouraging with little reward. With more cards added to the War Wagons, I'm eager to see if my 53 chances for Cryptic will finally net me my first airdrop card!
At present, I have 13 wagons and 6 packs farming at 7665 HR, eagerly awaiting the next conflict. Oh, how I yearn for that squirrel summoner!
Let me recount a battle filled with more drama than Romeo and Juliet! I devised a plan to counter the Divine Shield and bring it down swiftly.
The initial attack on each unit inflicts no damage due to Divine Shield, which is why I opted for an OG monster with Double-Strike. While Blast is a good choice too, using the Coastal Sentry allows me to bypass the holy protection and inflict damage on the same unit!
My battle strategy focused on quickly taking down the tank with strikes from the Sentry, while neutralizing any healing or support through sneak attacks. The Creeping Ooze played a critical role in slowing down my adversaries, ensuring my sneaky team could strike first.
Team composition included: - Kelya Frendul: +1 Speed & +1 Armor - Coastal Sentry: Tank with Double-Strike - Pelacor Bandit: Melee with Flying and Sneak - Creeping Ooze: Support with Slow - Uraeus: Melee with Sneak
My forecasting skills proved effective as I anticipated the opponent’s strategy. I needed to eliminate the healers promptly. Although the Unicorn Mustang serves as a robust tank, my lack of casters rendered the Void Armor ineffective.
I managed to slow my opponents down, but they reciprocated! My sneak attack setup gained an early advantage, quickly eliminating the opposing ooze and maximizing speed levels.
The Coastal Sentry fought valiantly, executing her role until her downfall! She was both beautiful and lethal! I had doubts about the Pelacor Bandit stepping into the tank role, but I had little choice.
The Unicorn Mustang received additional healing, and the Goblin Psychic continued to treat the injured beast, leaving me with fewer monsters as the battle progressed. It was late in the match, and I could hardly recall who still had Divine Shield active. An active shield could swing the battle!
To turn the tide in my favor, I executed some crafty maneuvers, with Uraeus delivering a decisive blow to the Goblin Psychic. It would come down to luck!
The Pelacor Bandit managed to evade an attack from the Unicorn Mustang, while the Khmer Princess struck true, leaving my flying thug with only one health point! I still held onto hope for victory!
As the fourth round began poorly, the Bandit joined the ranks of fallen heroes. Yet, credit where it’s due—placing Uraeus in the last position allowed him to spring into action with a proper bite, causing the Princess to lose her glimmer!
The Creeping Ooze still had Divine Shield intact, blocking one attack from the Mustang, while Uraeus continued to bite with those sharp fangs! The glorified horse attacked again, only to strike the Ooze's armor. Another snake bite landed just before the Ooze succumbed to the Unicorn Mustang's hooves.
It became a survival of the fittest, as the Mustang gained speed over Uraeus after my Ooze was defeated. I retained a slight advantage when Divine Shield blocked one attack, but I lost it after missing my own strike.
The Unicorn Mustang destroyed my armor, leaving me one hit away from victory—if I didn't miss! Curious to find out the outcome? Will fate smile upon me, or will I face defeat? See the full battle here!
